Friend,
There’s a saying in fundraising: early money is like yeast. Basically, when candidates are able to raise money early on, it demonstrates their viability to all who are interested, which in turn convinces more people to invest in their campaign. It makes the dough rise!
No one knows the power of early money better than Emily's List. Emily's List is a group that started in 1985 that aims to help elect Democratic female candidates to Congress. Their name is an acronym for "Early Money Is Like Yeast".
And today we are proud to announce that Elissa has been endorsed by Emily's List.
This endorsement comes at an important time. To date, just 59 women have ever(!) served in the U.S. Senate, out of 2,002 people total. And only 25 women senators are serving right now as we speak. If elected, Elissa would be the youngest woman to serve in the Senate as a Democrat.
Emily's List is the original organization that endorses and supports female candidates, especially first-time candidates. They teach women how to run by helping with media and fundraising training, and advise and counsel as they embark on this unusual process of campaigning. They backed Senator Stabenow in her original run for Senate, and we are honored that they’ve done the same for Elissa in her run for the same seat.
Their endorsement also comes at an important moment for our campaign: Friday, March 31st is our first quarterly fundraising deadline of our one-month old Senate campaign, and even though it’s early, it’s really one of the most consequential. Money given now is like the yeast needed to make bread -- it’s essential, and with it our whole campaign can grow into something significant and strategic.
So with that in mind, we are asking if you’ll consider making a contribution today that will help our Senate campaign rise to all of the challenges that this election will bring.
