John, Clarence Thomas’ latest ethical lapse is egregious and a reminder that we need accountability for the misconduct of right-wing Supreme Court Justices.
First, Justice Thomas failed to recuse himself from January 6th cases after we discovered that his extremist wife sent texts to Trump's Chief of Staff, urging him to "stop the steal" and overturn the results of our 2020 elections. Now, a new report has revealed that Clarence Thomas spent the last two decades accepting luxury vacations from a GOP megadonor. And he never disclosed any of it – which is a direct violation of ethics laws.
The level of extravagance and corruption here is simply jaw-dropping. One trip alone added up to $500,000. He took private jets between islands, stayed at luxury resorts, and sunbathed on massive superyachts – and all of it was paid for by right-wing megadonors.
Let me be clear here: Justice Thomas has spent two decades secretly accepting millions of dollars worth of gifts from the same people who were advocating for ultra-conservative rulings from the courts. And when Justice Thomas returned home from these luxury resorts, he gave these donors exactly what they wanted – overturning Roe v. Wade, weakening gun reform laws, undermining the EPA, and so much more.
SCOTUS is our highest and most revered court. The justices that have the honor to serve on it make decisions that impact all of us. It is VITAL that every single one of these justices only answer to the Constitution – not their political party, not their own interests, and certainly not donors.
But John, it sure seems like Clarence Thomas has other interests, and I believe that’s more than enough reason for Clarence Thomas to find another job.
Will you respond to my live poll before midnight tonight to help hold Thomas accountable and show Washington where you stand?
Should Clarence Thomas be held accountable for these blatant violations of ethics laws?
