Right now, it’s not clear which Republican leader will be the eventual nominee for Senate in Michigan. But here on Team Slotkin we’re like the Boy Scouts: always prepared. So, we pay close attention to who’s got their eye on the race.

That’s why we wanted to let you know about a new development: James Craig, one of last year’s failed Republican candidates for Governor in Michigan, announced last week that he’s exploring a run for this Senate seat.

Craig, the former Detroit Police Chief, was one of the Republican Gubernatorial candidates that was disqualified from the primary after it was discovered that he submitted thousands of fraudulent nominating petition signatures.

He believes that any legislation that aims to protect our children from gun violence is “going too far” AND he opposes abortion for victims of rape and incest.

If Michiganders have proven anything over the last year, it’s that they’re looking for elected leaders who help keep our communities safe and protect our rights. We passed a ballot petition last November codifying the Roe standard into state law. And just last week, Elissa attended the signing of gun safety legislation in Lansing, including universal background checks and safe storage requirements, alongside reasonable Republicans who are brave enough to take a first step to protect our kids.

The comparison between the potential GOP candidates and Elissa couldn’t be more different. So, while Mr. Craig hasn’t announced yet, it’s still critically important that we be prepared for when he or someone else does.

So: Will you chip in anything you can afford to help Elissa win this race and be a champion for Michigan in the Senate? Your support means so much in a race that will have such a big impact on the future of Michigan.
