Today, more than 300 outraged ACCE
tenant leaders from across the state are taking to the Capitol in
Sacramento, joining with Housing Now! Coalition members from across
the state, calling on our Legislature to pass Senate Bill 567 - the
Homelessness Prevention Act. SB 567 will stop landlords from gouging
tenants by lowering the state’s rent cap and closing the “renoviction”
loophole. The vote is going to be close and we need
your help!

Rent hikes and evictions cause
homelessness. There is no way around that. In fact, a recent study
showed that a $100 increase in the median rent led to a 9% increase in
homelessness. SB 567 is a solution by limiting rent increases and
protecting families from unfair evictions.
The California Apartment
Association and the Wall Street landlords who fund them see this bill
as threatening their profits and are pushing hard to stop it.
