John,
The state of Delaware is doing major improvements to our transportation systems and infrastructure. I want to share with you some of the projects we are working on to create a more efficient and sustainable transportation network:
🛣️ 🚧 The project Restore the Corridor Wilmington is a major DelDOT project along the I-95 corridor in Wilmington that will make the needed repairs to extend the bridges' service life and avoid major and costly rehabilitation work. Major construction began in February 2021 and was completed ahead of schedule earlier this month.
🚦🚙 Intelligent Transportation Systems have been implemented to improve traffic management and reduce congestion. This is a great addition to the roads to successfully coordinate traffic signaling and make driving easier and safer for all Delawareans.
🚉 🧑🔧 The Wilmington Transit Hub project added a new transit center adjacent to the Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station. This new center includes a plaza, a bus terminal, an improved bike access, and pedestrian walkways. This helped modernize the facility as well as improve passenger comfort and convenience.
🚲 🛵 Delaware is investing in transportation projects that improve walking, biking, and other non-motorized modes of transportation. One example of this is the Delaware Bicycle Plan, which includes the development of new bike trains and bike lanes to promote cycling as a mode of transportation.
