Questions about Southpoint Development
People's Alliance is an organizational partner of the Coalition for Affordable Housing and Transit. At a recent policy meeting the Coalition voted to pass on some questions to the Durham City Council and the Durham County Commissioners.
Questions regarding the Southpoint housing development:
• Why hasn’t the developer mentioned or inquired about the possible waiver of the 1.75 parking space requirement for 9% LIHTC grants?
• Why hasn’t the developer explored ways to finance affordable units using 4% LIHTC grants?
• Why does the developer pretend that a 9% LIHTC grant is needed for affordable units when affordable housing is being built without these grants and using conventional financing and other available financial tools?
• Why hasn’t the developer offered to donate land to the City to allow the Council to partner with affordable housing developers to get more affordable units built?
