John, I've got a secret.
I drink a glass of chocolate milk almost every day.
My wife rolls her eyes, and my staff just laugh at me – but I'm not ashamed of it. There’s simply no better way to end a long day than with a big glass of ice-cold chocolate milk. And you know, I'm not the only Delawarean who has a reputation for being a dairy aficionado.
Whereas I opt for chocolate milk, my good friend, Joe Biden, is known to love nothing more than a cone of ice cream stacked tall with scoops.
But a mutual love for cold, chocolatey treats is only one of many values that Joe and I share. Amongst the others – a lifelong commitment to public service, a strong work ethic, and a fierce desire to win progress by bringing people together and finding common ground.
It's those shared values that brought us together so many years ago when I first ran for office as a young man. I've learned so much from Joe over the years – how to lead with dignity, how to build bridges when it seems impossible, how to bring real compassion to politics, and, yes, where to get the best ice cream in Wilmington.
It's been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Delaware with Joe at my side and to work with my Democratic colleagues to pass his agenda in the Senate. But our work is far from over. Now that Joe is officially running for reelection, it's up to us to make sure that he has a strong Democratic majority in the Senate to back him up.
We're up against tough odds – and Mitch McConnell is going to do everything he can to defeat Joe and take back the Senate. So please, John, before my midnight deadline, will you rush $5 to defend our Senate majority and make sure that Joe can keep on winning progress for American families?
