We don't have to accept homelessness as inevitable.
We don't have to accept so many of us being forced to choose between paying rent or purchasing medicine or food.
We don't have to accept a housing system that prioritizes profits over our basic human need for a roof over our heads.
When we ensure the legal right to housing for all Californians, we obligate the government to make that value a reality.

If passed, the ramifications could be huge. Having a constitutional human right to housing in California would obligate both state and local governments to respect, protect and fulfill this right for its people. It would require the state to build, preserve and ensure adequate housing exists for all Californians throughout the state, regardless of income level. That means the state’s need to dramatically increase housing affordable to our state’s low income and working families would not only be a goal, but a constitutional requirement.

As the pandemic protections end and families are left to fend for themselves in a broken housing system and inflated economy, now more than ever do we need to take bold, swift, structural action.

No tenemos que aceptar la falta de vivienda como algo inevitable.
No tenemos que aceptar que muchos de nosotros nos veamos obligados a elegir entre pagar el alquiler o comprar medicamentos o alimentos.
No tenemos que aceptar un sistema de vivienda que priorice las ganancias sobre nuestra necesidad humana básica de un techo sobre nuestras cabezas.
Cuando garantizamos el derecho legal a la vivienda para todos los Californianos, obligamos al gobierno a hacer realidad ese valor.
