We just wrapped up the last week of the Alabama Legislature’s 2023 regular session, John! Our members and staff made MAJOR progress on our policy priorities – priorities that were chosen by members like you. Bills are making their way to Gov. Kay Ivey’s desk, and we need your support to show our coalition is strong and growing.

John, can we count on you to give to Arise today to keep up our momentum and implement our victories from the legislative session? A gift of any amount will strengthen our collective voice.

Thank you for all you have helped accomplish for Alabamians this year! With your help during the 2023 legislative session, we:

  • Reduced the state grocery tax! The average family of four will save about $300 per year on groceries when this bill is fully in effect. This will make it easier for people across our state to make ends meet. And it is a great first step toward righting the wrongs of Alabama’s upside-down tax system.
  • Helped pass a bill to limit driver’s license suspensions for inability to pay fines and fees, such as unpaid traffic tickets. This will allow more folks to keep their jobs and stay connected to their communities.
  • Laid the groundwork for Medicaid expansion. In March, the House Health Committee formally discussed Alabama’s health coverage gap for the first time. Lawmakers also created a Medicaid reserve fund, which will be a critical tool to support expansion and ensure health coverage for hundreds of thousands of Alabamians with low incomes.

When we stand together, we create meaningful change for the people of Alabama and for communities experiencing poverty. Will you join us and give now to be a part of our 2023 victories? It’s imperative that we remain steadfast in support of these issues as these bills are enacted.

Thank you for helping us accomplish our vision of a more equitable state.

With gratitude,

Robyn Hyden, executive director
