Microfibers = Macro Problem
Microfibers are released from our clothes every day, contaminating our air, water, agricultural lands, and ocean. 5 Gyres is co-sponsoring AB 1628 (McKinnor), which would require all new washing machines in California to have a microfiber-catching filter. This is the most effective, near-term solution to address the quadrillions of fibers released into the environment each year from California washing machines.
AB 1628 recently passed through the state Assembly and is now heading to the Senate! We know that passing a bill in California often leads to change nationwide, so this bill has the potential to have a huge ripple effect.

The 2-day adventure will consist of onboard science, networking, and deep conversations around microfiber pollution and solutions. Email us if this sounds like a fit for you!

In need of deadstock and blanks:
We’re searching for the best way to create 5 Gyres merchandise (like everyone's favorite "More Ocean, Less Plastic" tees!) without adding more new material into the world. If you know of any sustainable companies that have deadstock or excess blanks, please reach out!
