Friend -
We hope your inbox is a little quieter after our big end-of-quarter fundraising push (and we are SO grateful for your support). We don’t like bombarding your inbox with fundraising asks, which is why today, we’re not asking for money. We are giving you the rundown on all of the things that have happened in our race in the last month →
Endorsements
In June, we rolled endorsements from 37 local Oakland County officials. These are people who know Elissa best and have worked with her and know her commitment to Michigan. Then, they joined us for an event in Pontiac to explain why they’re on Team Slotkin. Click here to watch the highlights of that event!
Our campaign was also endorsed by Elect Democratic Women – an organization dedicated to electing strong, pro-choice women to every level of government. And this was just the latest round of our endorsements – joining a growing list of support that includes EMILY’s List, End Citizens United/Let America Vote, VoteVets, Foreign Policy for America, 14 major labor unions, and more than 50 mid-Michigan officials.
Events
In June, Elissa attended events in Bay, Ingham, Oakland (including a few in Pontiac), and Wayne Counties. Elissa joined the community of Ferndale for their Pride festival where she received a tour of the Affirmations community center – an organization dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community of Ferndale.
Elissa also joined Juneteenth festivities in Detroit, Farmington Hills, and Lansing – which is one of the oldest Juneteenth celebrations in the country.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Detroit March to Freedom, in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. first delivered a version of his “I Have A Dream” speech, Elissa marched alongside thousands of community members for the NAACP Freedom Walk. That weekend ended with the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner and an inspiring keynote address by Senator Raphael Warnock.
Elissa also had the opportunity to attend the Livingston County Democrats’ Annual Dinner, the Bay County Democrats’ Annual Dinner, meet with the Royal Oak Democrats, and attend a Father’s Day service at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, just to name a few!
Basically, if there was an opportunity to meet with people and engage – Elissa was there.
Key race updates
In June, we also got the first public poll of this race – showing us in a dead heat, as well as President Biden TIED with Donald Trump.
With National Republicans recognizing that their path to winning the White House and control of the Senate hinges on Michigan, it became clear that we are going to get an official opponent any day now. Donald Trump even came to town to energize the Republican base and lay the groundwork for a tough Senate race in 2024.
As we enter July, we are preparing for multiple Republicans to launch their campaigns – including a former Congressman and the Vice President of the New York Stock Exchange.
What this means for us: We always knew this race would be tough, but we’re staying the course – reaching people where they are and taking Elissa’s message to voters across the state. Defending an open Senate seat in a swing state won’t be easy, but nothing worth doing ever is.
Thank you for being on this ride with us. We’re just getting started!
