News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

I visited Hartford’s North End with Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, and Mayor Luke Bronin, to announce federal infrastructure funding we secured together to improve the neighborhood’s transportation network. I voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law because of the unique opportunity we have to transform our region, including through efforts to reconnect neighborhoods like the North End with the rest of the city, which has been a top priority of mine. The federally funded Streetscape Improvements Project will improve road conditions, help cut down on traffic congestion, and offer more reliable transit options to residents.

The East Hartford Fire Department was awarded $530,000 in new federal funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program to support new firefighter training, turnout gear, and thermal image cameras. I was thrilled to bring these funds home from Washington to build on Mayor Mike Walsh and Fire Chief Kevin Munson’s efforts over the last two years to improve on-the-job safety and utilize state of the art firefighting equipment to best serve the community.

Rep. Joe Courtney, Senator Blumenthal, and I met with homeowners plagued with crumbling foundations due to the presence of pyrrhotite in the concrete used to pour their homes' foundations. Through no fault of their own, thousands of Connecticut families have been left with exorbitant costs to replace their foundation and make necessary home repairs. After working with Rep. Courtney and the IRS to ensure they could deduct these costs from their federal taxes, Congressional Republicans eliminated this option in their 2017 Tax Law. This week, we are introducing bipartisan legislation in Congress to restore the federal Casualty Loss Deduction.

I will continue my efforts in Congress to advocate for resources to improve our infrastructure, invest in public safety, and offer relief for Connecticut families.
