Hi, my name is Gabby Giffords. I'm a former congresswoman, and 12 years ago, my life was changed forever when I survived a mass shooting at a constituent event in my hometown.

I decided to turn my pain into purpose by becoming a national gun safety advocate, and I've never looked back. But today, I'm not writing to talk about myself. I'm here to tell you about my ally, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin. I am in Detroit today, announcing my support for her campaign because of the unique role she can play in the fight for gun safety.

Elissa Slotkin is an incredible leader who ran in and won a Republican leaning district – not once, but three times. Elissa has been a steadfast advocate for families and children in Michigan and across the country. And now, she’s running for the open Senate seat here in Michigan to protect the Senate’s gun safety majority.

I’m writing today because I couldn’t be prouder to endorse her in her fight to be Michigan’s next U.S. Senator. Will you join me in supporting her by chipping in a few dollars to her campaign now?

Elissa has been and continues to be a staunch advocate for passing commonsense gun safety legislation at the federal level – and she brings a unique background to this fight. Elissa grew up with guns on her family farm, carried a Glock-17 and MF-13 during her three tours in Iraq, and represents a district with strong support for Second Amendment rights. Elissa knows that gun ownership and commonsense gun safety laws go hand-in-hand.

In addition, Elissa unfortunately became the first Congresswoman to have two school shootings in her district – the shooting at Oxford High School and the shooting at Michigan State University. She knows and understands how gun violence threatens our youth – gun violence is the #1 killer of American children.

We need leaders like Elissa Slotkin advocating for gun safety and so many more issues in the U.S. Senate.
