Friend—

Michigan quite literally invented the middle class. We were the place where you could get a good job working in an auto plant and afford to buy the car you were making. And union labor has been a part of our state's identity for as long as we can remember. As the representative for one of the most unionized districts in the country, Elissa has been a fierce advocate for protecting workers rights at the federal level.

The combination COVID, demand for labor and technology have all brought us to a critical inflection point for workers’ rights. Teamsters’ UPS workers are in the heat of negotiations that would impact nearly all Americans, and the UAW has already started negotiations with Big Three car companies this summer — a high-stakes negotiation for every single Michigander, given our state’s economy.

As these unions across the country are exercising their right to collectively bargain for fairer wages and better working conditions, it’s more important than ever that Michigan have a leader who has demonstrated a willingness to fight for workers rights. Someone who has spent years in union halls, stood in support when her locals have struck, engaged with both workers and company leadership in our toughest moments on supply chain shortages and work stoppages and subsequent fights on unemployment benefits — and all the critical federal legislation that’s required to support change on the group.

As a member of Congress, Elissa voted to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize Act – sweeping legislation that would federally protect organizers rights to organize and form a union, as well as prevent employers from union busting.

This is why 14 unions — representing over 100,000 workers — have already come out and endorsed Elissa, and she’s spending the summer at events, union conventions, and membership meetings, talking about the importance of preserving and expanding the Middle Class.

If you agree that Michigan deserves a Senator who has demonstrated she will stand up for workers, will you chip in to Elissa’s campaign today?
