Friend ,

88 years ago today, on August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law.

Before Social Security, when Americans became old and stopped working, they routinely moved in with their adult children. Those whose families couldn’t afford to support them were even worse off.

Since the bill's passage, Americans have paid into Social Security, paycheck by paycheck. It’s a guarantee for the millions of seniors who rely on their Social Security to make ends meet. But instead of protecting and expanding this crucial lifeline, some in Congress want to gamble it away, with DC Republicans fighting to cut benefits for seniors who have spent their lives paying into this program.

Michigan’s population is one of the oldest in the country, so these cuts would impact us disproportionately. In Michigan, more than 2.2 million people receive Social Security benefits, which accounts for over one-third of households.

Regardless of what they might say, whether to expand or cut Social Security is a matter of values, not just affordability. We made a promise to America’s seniors and it’s a promise we must also uphold for future generations.

Elissa will fight to protect Social Security in the Senate and fight for the millions of Americans who rely on it to make ends meet. But she needs our help to get there, which is why today we have to ask:

Will you make a donation to Elissa Slotkin’s campaign for Senate in Michigan?
