Dear Friend,
We are halfway through August, and it is already proving to be a busy month as I travel across Maryland's First Congressional district to listen to my constituents about the issues that concern them.
From county fairs, to roundtables, to parades honoring our farm families, our district has much culture to celebrate, and I wanted to pass along my latest District update.
Blessing of the Combines:
It was an honor to celebrate our local farm families and agriculture at the 23rd annual Blessing of the Combines event in Snow Hill, Maryland.
Agriculture is part of the important economic and cultural makeup of Maryland's First District, and it was fantastic to see our community come together to celebrate our rich agricultural history.
Queen Anne's County Farm Family of the Year Award:
Each year, Queen Anne's County honors the culture of Maryland's First Congressional District by featuring livestock shows, 4-H entertainment, and presenting the annual Farm Family of the Year Award.
This year, I had the privilege of presenting the Farm Family of the Year Award to the Robert “Bobby” and Connie Wilson and family!
Congratulations to the Wilson Family on this year's award!
Farm Bill Listening Session with Committee on Agriculture Chairman:
This past week, I was joined by the House Committee on Agriculture, Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson, in holding a listening session at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).
We were joined by several agriculture stakeholders, including those representing farmers and watermen, as well as local officials.
I was happy that Chairman Thompson was able to hear directly about the needs of our district because it is vital that the concerns of our farmers and agricultural stakeholders are addressed in this year's Farm Bill.

Saint Michaels Watermen Appreciation Day:
It was great celebrating our watermen and waterwomen in St. Michaels.
I had the privilege of presenting congressional certificates recognizing individuals and families who have long contributed to the culture and heritage of the Eastern Shore.
