Hi there — it’s Congressman Jamie Raskin, the Representative for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District.

Today, I am in Ann Arbor to announce my endorsement of my friend Elissa Slotkin to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate. I have gotten to know Elissa by working alongside her in the House, and I have seen her fight tooth-and-nail for the issues that really matter to people — access to affordable health care, gun safety, fighting on behalf of workers and so much more — I know there is no one better to represent Michiganders in the U.S. Senate.

And all eyes are going to be on Michigan next November – this open seat in a notorious swing state could very well determine whether or not Democrats’ maintain control of the Senate. Elissa gave me an update on the state of the race: recent polling shows a statistical dead-heat in the Senate race and National Republicans are already launching attacks against her.

I know the election seems far off, but trust me when I say that the best thing Elissa can do right now is build a strong financial foundation of grassroots support. That means building an early warchest now, so she’s ready for whatever comes her way.
