Last night, Donald Trump skipped the Republican Presidential debate and instead parachuted into Detroit to attempt to make the UAW strike about himself. Despite pretending he was here to support UAW workers, he showed up at a non-union facility for his rally, at times he rambled, exaggerated, and outright lied about his record on workers.

And at one point he claimed that the strike he allegedly came to support “doesn’t make a damn bit of difference.”

For the workers I’ve talked to, a fair deal means the ability to provide for their families and secure a spot in the middle class. That may not mean much to Mr. Trump, but for Michiganders, it matters.

He also used his speech to attempt to rewrite history and pretend he’s *always* stood with working people – despite the fact that when he was in office, his administration fought to limit workers’ rights to unionize. And when GM was on strike in 2019, he dismissed the strike by saying “here we go again.”

But we know that this visit was never about workers – it was about using their fight for a middle class life to try and claim that he’s the candidate that cares about working people and advance his campaign for president.

Last night’s rally is an indication that Republicans are gearing up to throw everything they can at Michigan, and that Michigan Democrats can’t take anything for granted. No matter what anyone may tell you, Michigan is a swing state – full stop. And just as we have swung toward Democrats, Michigan is known for swinging right on back.

We can't let that happen. Want to help? Chip in what you can before our September 30 deadline, and help send a message that Michigan is sure as hell not ready to swing back to Trump.
