Dear Friend,
I wanted to pass along my latest update on what I have been doing to represent Maryland's First Congressional district and our country as a whole:
Addressing Biden's Border Crisis:
In August, migrant encounters at the southern border soared past 200,000 marking an all-time high for the Biden Administration. Since Joe Biden took office, there have been more than six million illegal crossings at our southern border. Already in 2023, fentanyl seizures have surpassed the 2022 total. This deadly fentanyl coming through our border has affected every state in our union and Maryland is no exception.
Make no mistake: The crisis happening at our southern border is a direct result of Joe Biden’s Far Left open border policies. To address this humanitarian crisis, House Republicans passed legislation to end the Biden border crisis and to stop the free flow of fentanyl. The Secure the Border Act of 2023 is the strongest border security bill in history, and I urge the Senate to take up this important legislation.
Important Facts:
- During Biden’s first 100 days in office, he took 94 executive actions on immigration, including halting the construction of the border wall.
- The Biden Administration announced on May 10, 2023, that it would allow for the release of some migrants into the U.S. with no way to track them.
- Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has now admitted that 40 percent of catch-and-release migrants have disappeared.
State and local governments are struggling to address the onslaught of illegal immigrants flooding their communities and have little recourse with the federal government. The table below shows the cost of illegal immigration for states along the southwest border. (Source: House Budget Committee).
