Friends —
If you're anything like us, you’ve been getting a lot of emails this week talking about a “mid-month fundraising deadline.” So, we wanted to take a second to break this idea down and explain what’s really happening.
First off, “mid-month” deadlines aren’t official deadlines of any kind. It’s just a tactic some campaigns use to generate a sense of urgency to convince people to give. We don’t do that.
So rather than giving you a completely made-up number we have to meet or our campaign will be doomed, we’ll simply explain exactly why your support matters right now:
The end of this week marks the halfway point of October.
While we don’t have an official reporting deadline, this is a moment where we like to check in and see how we are pacing towards our overall (very real) fundraising goals.
You see, your contribution a year from now, in the home-stretch, is important. Your contribution now helps us plan out exactly what we can accomplish in the coming months and year — when we can hire field staff, when we air our first TV ad, and so much more. So ensuring that we’re keeping up with what we’ve mapped out we need to win is important.
And maintaining that steady drumbeat of support is especially important now that we have Republican opponents raising and spending money of their own.
So yes: we are going to be emailing more than usual this week, because any strong campaign has to work towards their goals.
But no, we won’t be telling you it’s because of a fake deadline. We hope you’ll see this as a refreshing, but still compelling reason to support Elissa today.
