This week, there has been a lot of focus on Jim Jordan, who is currently House Republicans’ top pick to be Speaker of the House. Jim Jordan is as extreme as it gets and his potential election marks a full takeover of the Republican Party by radical extremists.

And what’s even more alarming? Jim Jordan and our potential Republican opponent, former Congressman Mike Rogers, have very similar voting records and have stood in lockstep on a number of key issues during their time in Congress together. They have both supported legislation that hurt women, unions, and our seniors.

• Jim Jordan wrote of one of the most aggressive national abortion bans on record, the Life At Conception Act, which included zero exceptions for rape, incest, or common miscarriage. Mike Rogers, despite tap-dancing to the contrary, was a lead co-sponsored of this ban — and has supported only bans and penalties on abortion since he was first elected in 1994 (when Elissa Slotkin was a senior in high school).


• Jordan and Rogers have both affirmatively voted to cut Social Security and privatize Medicare. Michigan’s population skews older, so these cuts would disproportionately impact our state. In Michigan, more than 2.2 million people receive Social Security benefits, which account for ⅓ of households across the state.


• When it comes to our workers, Jordan and Rogers have both received failing grades from the AFL-CIO and UAW year after year. They uniformly support anti-worker and anti-union legislation – voting to make it easier for employers to stall unionization efforts.


• Even when it comes to bipartisan bills – like providing aid to victims of 9/11 and their families — they have both stood together. In 2010, both Jim Jordan and Mike Rogers voted against the 9/11 Health And Compensation Act, which provided medical services for 9/11 first responders and reopened the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

The truth is that while Mike Rogers will try to paint himself as a moderate, he has and will stand with the most extreme sides of his party whenever he’s given the chance. He’s already doing everything he can to appeal to the far-right base – starting off his campaign with a viral video attacking the FBI and calling them “corrupt” for going after Trump – despite being a former FBI officer!

We know when push comes to shove Mike Rogers will stand with Jim Jordan and Donald Trump over Michiganders – which is why we can’t let him get to the Senate. Will you chip in to help us send Elissa Slotkin to the Senate and push back against the brand of extremism that bows to any and every political wind?
