There is a small group of powerful people around Oakland who want nothing more than to turn our public education institutions into a profitable commodity. The charter school project in Oakland does just that, and we cannot pull any punches in protecting our schools from billionaires. Here’s the rundown: We have three labor-backed Oakland School Board members, three who stand in their way, and one vacancy with an election in four days.

Democratic socialist Sasha Ritzie-Hernandez is running for that very vacant seat in District 5, and our organizers have campaigned every week for two months to get her elected. Elections are in four days, and we need all the resources we can get to win a historic labor majority and elect more women to lead Oakland’s School Board.
