Friend —

The Republicans in the Michigan Senate primary are twisting themselves into knots trying to both cater to the extreme, far-right Republican base and paint themselves as moderates who can win a general election.

Nowhere is that more clear than how the candidates talk about former President Donald Trump.

When asked in an interview whether Donald Trump is honest and truthful, Peter Meijer — who is best known for his vote to impeach Trump in the aftermath of January 6th — in the same breath said that "facts absolutely matter" and "Donald Trump's never lied to me." He’s also said that he will support the former president in the 2024 election. It’s an attempt to try to give Trump a pass on deceiving the American people while saying that Trump doesn't always "get the facts right all the time."

Also recently, former Congressman Mike Rogers — who is a former FBI officer — was asked about Donald Trump’s dozens of criminal indictments. His response? He deflected the question by claiming that we should be more concerned about the U.S. Department of Justice. This comes after one of Rogers’ first moves in his campaign was to release a glossy video attacking his former colleagues at the FBI for investigating Trump’s alleged criminal actions.

Both of these candidates want to have it both ways: They want to appeal to Trump and the extreme base of the GOP while also posturing as the sensible, responsible, moderate candidate who can win independent voters. But both can’t be true.

While Republicans have to sort through their messy and chaotic primary, our campaign is staying focused on what really matters: talking to voters, listening, and figuring out how to fight on their behalf.

With that in mind, can you make a $3 contribution to Elissa Slotkin's campaign for Senate? Help us inform voters that those who hope to win this seat can’t seem to make up their mind who they want to be.
