John,
We did it.
We passed an ordinance requiring the San Francisco Police Department to implement a community policing strategy, including foot and bike patrols, to address and prevent crime.
I was proud to lead the passage of this ordinance in City Hall. I'm grateful to every one of you who voiced support for it, whether you signed my petition, called your supervisor, or shared news about it with folks in your network.
Supervisors Engardio, Peskin, Ronen, Chan, Walton, Dorsey, Melgar, Mandelman, and Stefani ultimately joined me in passing this ordinance. The new strategy will put more SFPD officers to the streets where crime is most rampant -- and requires those officers to have ties to the community or the ability to readily develop such ties. This will enable community members and police to solve local problems together.
Every one of us deserves to feel safe in the neighborhoods where we live and work. This ordinance brings us one step closer to achieving that vision.
Thanks for your support,
Ahsha
