As we hinted in our last email to you, we aren’t cleaning up the ocean… but we ARE using science-based data from our Plastic Free Parks ([link removed]) project to push for critical policy efforts!

Our brand new TrashBlitz mobile app (download it today! ([link removed]) ) supports community science volunteers around the world in collecting data on trash that has entered the environment. This localized data helps to paint a picture of a region’s (in this case, all of the U.S. National Parks and Federal Lands) trash problem and then informs 5 Gyres’ recommendations that help reduce plastic pollution – for example, passing the Reducing Waste in National Parks Act ([link removed]) . Our data was even used to support the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against PepsiCo ([link removed]) !
