CBE Green is a DSLBD initiative that was created to promote and support the involvement of CBEs in the expanding green and environmentally sustainable energy and buildings market. In partnership with DC’s Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE), DSLBD is supporting CBEs through additional training opportunities to prepare them for procurement opportunities offered by DOEE, DCSEU, and beyond.

To maximize the support available to CBEs, DSLBD intends to award between four (4) to eight (8) grants with $500,000 in total available funding for Fiscal Year 2024. Grant awards are limited to one (1) category. Applicants may apply for funding in the following service areas:

The CBE Green Contract Services Grants: DSLBD intends to award up to six (6) grants at a maximum of $50,000 per grant from $300,000 in available funding for FY24. These grant awards will cover a mix of marketing and back-office services for at least 30 CBEs, each pursuing green energy procurement opportunities.

The CBE Green Pitch Grant: DSLBD intends to award one (1) grant of $50,000to one (1) recipient and grants between $2,000 and $10,000 to a maximum of ten (10) CBE Green Pitch participants from $125,000 of total funding for FY24.

The CBE Green Business Support Lottery Grants: DSLBD intends to award up to $10,000 per grant to approximately five (5) CBEs, by way of a lottery for CBEs, that are registered with DSLBD as small, resident-owned, or disadvantaged.

The CBE Green Event Grant: DSLBD intends to award up to $25,000 to one (1) CBE. DSLBD is seeking an event planner to coordinate the CBE Green Industry Rally Day.

Legislative Updates ()
This week, the Council did not hold a Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting or legislative meeting. On Tuesday, Councilmember White attended the Mayor/Council joint breakfast at Clyde’s restaurant to discuss public safety and reviving the downtown area.

The Council’s standing committees continue to hold performance oversight hearings. This Friday, a special hearing will be held by the COW to discuss a major annual report regarding the District’s finances, the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This report describes the budget performance of the District over the past fiscal year and includes an analysis of the costs projected by the District’s finance agency and the actual costs and spending of the District over the financial year. In the last few years, the report has revealed record surpluses (last year’s surplus was $834 million) and spurred conversations about what the District should and can do with surplus revenue.

Other important performance oversight hearings to be held this week include the Office of the Inspector General, the Department of Behavioral Health, the Department of Aging and Community Living, the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability, the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, the Office of Returning Citizen Affairs, and the Commission on Re-Entry and Returning Citizen Affairs. Committee Updates ()

The Committee on Recreation, Libraries and Youth Affairs held two performance oversight hearings this week.

On Wednesday, January 31st at 9:30 am, the Committee held a hearing on the Mayor's Office of Caribbean Community Affairs (MOCCA) and the Mayor's Office of Latino Affairs (MOLA).

On Thursday, February 1st at 9:30 am, the Committee held a hearing on the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME).

Community Budget Conversation on FY25

Councilmember Trayon White held a Community Budget conversation on the Zoom meeting platform geared towards shaping the future of Ward 8. This meeting provided an invaluable opportunity for residents to participate actively in the budgeting process.

Councilmember White released a statement on the Incident of a Student Leaving Undetected from Hendley Elementary's After-School Program.

Councilmember White joins residents of Marbury Plaza for a meeting on property conditions and concerns.

Councilmember White joined over 100 residents of Marbury Plaza Apartments to hear about the conditions and concerns on the property and to navigate a path towards resolving those concerns. He will continue to work with residents impacted at this property to ensure liveable conditions.
Councilmember White remembers Cordell Williams with friends and family at a candlelight vigil.

Councilmember White remembers the former 7th grader of Kramer Middle School who lost his life from a gunshot wound. The family held a candlelight vigil one year after an incident in his honor. The details surrounding the Cordell's death are still unconfirmed.

Councilmember White shared memories with the family at Cordell's at the vigil. Cordell's mom described her son as family-oriented who loved football.
Attorney General Brian Schwalb discusses reducing gun violence alongside the US Attorney's Office.

Councilmember Trayon White's Constituent Service team joined over 100 residents at the Anacostia Coordinating Council's first meeting of 2024. Matt Graves of the US Attorney's Office and DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb were the guest speakers.

The audience heard from both offices on the prosecution of federal crimes and juvenile crimes and how they will work together to reduce gun violence within the District.

ANC8D held public meeting and provided updates on neighborhood projects, elections and more.


The ANC8D public meeting, held every fourth Thursday of the month, featured the annual election of officers presided over by Constituent Services Director Monique Diop.

The newly elected board members are:
* Commissioner Wendy Hamilton, Chair and Secretary
* Commissioner Natasha Yates, Vice Chair
* Jacqueline Kinlow, Treasurer

The meeting also included updates on various topics such as MPD, the Belleuve 7-Eleven, the budget requirements for the renovation of Fort Greble Park, the completion of the DC Plug Project, and the report from our Councilmember's office.
Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School cheerleaders named champion at cheer competition.

Constituent Services Specialist Louise Thornes celebrated with the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School cheerleaders on their championship win at a cheer competition held at Coolidge Senior High School.
DDOT requests proposals from potential grantees to design, build,operate, and maintain charging stations for electric vehicles.

Constituent Services Specialist Eric Cleckley attended a webinar on the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program Grant.

Under the (NEVI) Formula Program, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) received funding to invest in Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and to build Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) stations throughout the District of Columbia in accordance with the program’s guidance, specifications, and requirements.

DDOT requests proposals from potential grantees to design, build, operate and maintain DCFC charging stations along federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). Private EVSE companies and other entities eligible are encouraged to apply for the NEVI Formula Program Grant.

Pepco will upgrade its infrastucture to accommodate new development in Ward 8.

Constituent Services Specialist Kevin Coleman joined a virtual community meeting hosted by Pepco to learn about the “Climate Ready Pathway” ([link removed]) multi year plan program for Wards 7 and 8.

Pepco mentioned its need to upgrade its infrastructure to accomodate the new development in Ward 8. This plan includes upgrades to the Alabama Avenue substation currently serving Ward 8 residents.

Pepco explained that by upgrading the substation with newer equipment, it will help increase the capacity of the system and help facilitate more electric vehicle charging stations, in addition to [DEL: i :DEL] ncreasing more solar panels.

Lastly, the plan includes the “Comprehensive Feeder Reliability” project which aims to increase the capacity of overhead feeders throughout the District

WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is pushing forward with a plan to revitalize the Gallery Place/Chinatown corridor as Monumental Sports considers moving the Washington Capitals and Wizards to a new arena in Alexandria, Virginia.

Bowser told reporters she is not closing the door on the sports and entertainment company staying in the District, but she is not considering renegotiating a deal with Monumental without the sports teams.

At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie and Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White questioned how the new vision for the corridor would include native Washingtonians and the Black community.

The majority of the issues raised by the councilmembers focused on crime. "It's riddled with a lot of crime, a lot of drug use," Trayon White said. "In fact the last two times I came here to a major event at the arena my car was broken into. Window bust open. It wasn't just isolated with me. There was over thirty people," he added.
