Every third Friday in February, we celebrate National Caregivers Day and honor the millions of health care workers nationwide, as well as the caregivers who often provide unpaid, essential family care.

Caregivers provide about 24 hours of care each week, and most of them also hold full- or part-time jobs. They also spend thousands of dollars out-of-pocket on caregiving expenses. Pennsylvania is home to one of the highest aging populations in the United States, and we rely heavily on caregivers to provide support to our seniors and to those living with disabilities or chronic conditions.

This is not an exaggeration: Caregivers are the unsung heroes that are holding our society together. They need our support as much as we need them.

I'm calling on Congress to pass legislation to support family caregivers with economic tax credits, paid family and medical leave, respite care, home and community-based services, and access to quality health care. Add your name next to mine to support our nation's caregivers >>>
