** Spring Budget 2024
------------------------------------------------------------
Alcohol Change UK is deeply disappointed with the announcement in the Spring Budget 2024 by Jeremy Hunt, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on the freeze in alcohol duty.
Responding to the announcement, Dr Richard Piper, CEO at Alcohol Change UK, said: "It's a short-sighted move and takes no account of the shocking increases we’re seeing in alcohol-related deaths."

** Alcohol Awareness Week 2024
------------------------------------------------------------
This year’s Alcohol Awareness Week takes place from 1-7 July and the theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Understanding alcohol harm’.

** Scotland to raise minimum price to 65p
------------------------------------------------------------
The minimum unit price (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland is to be raised to 65p per unit, it was announced last month. ------------------------------------------------------------
A new report has shown that, between October 2021 and September 2022, 428 people in England and Wales died by suicide within 12 months of contact with drug and alcohol services. This represented 8% of all suicide deaths. Many (38%) of the people who died by suicide were under the care of these services at the time of their death, suggesting important opportunities for intervention. The authors conclude that reducing heavy drinking and drug use for those under the care of services, and at a population level, is a key area for suicide prevention.

------------------------------------------------------------

This is the first time that a beer company has been chosen to be a ‘top tier’ partner of the Olympics. Despite being led by its alcohol-free Corona Cero brand, there are concerns that the branding will draw attention to its alcoholic equivalent, and it was described by Alcohol Change UK’s Wales Director as “an odd pairing”.
