John,
We all know I’m not one to pick partisan battles to divide people. Having been raised by a Republican Grandfather and a Democratic Father, I truly believe we have more in common than our differences. I understand that, above all else, public service is about the people, not the politics.
But, when our democracy is under threat by extremists right here in Washington, and even in the race for Washington’s 6th Congressional District, I can’t stay quiet.
In the last week, extremism took over when the Washington Republican state convention put forward a platform that is not reflective of my Grandfather’s Republican party or the democracy we all believe in and want. Take a look at their extreme platform–that they crafted–for yourself. Washington Republicans called to:
- End early and mail-in voting in favor of one-day-only, in-person paper ballots.
- End the direct election of senators. Instead, they want to wind the clock back to 1913, when senators were appointed by state legislatures.
- End the use of the word democracy for the word republic! YES–you read that right.
They’re saying the quiet part out loud, John,: In the Washington GOP’s own words, “We…oppose legislation which makes our nation more democratic in nature.”
We know this rhetoric does not represent all Republican voters. But this kind of extremism is tearing our communities apart, tearing our democracy down. It has to be opposed.
For the last eight years, I’ve worked across the state and the 6th district, meeting with and bringing people together, putting our differences aside, and getting real results on the ground for everyone. It is how I have always worked and how I will work in Congress.
I am running for Congress to bring our communities together and strengthen our democracy, address our climate crisis, restore prosperity, ensure housing, solve the fentanyl crisis and leave our children and grandchildren a better future than we inherited.
As we say in firefighting, “All Lands, All Hands, All together, we can solve any challenge.”
Join me in fighting back extremism and working to bring people together for a better future for all. Help empower bridge builders over bridge burners. With so much on the line in November, we can’t take this race for granted. Will you chip in $5 or whatever you can afford right now to help democracy prevail in Washington?
