Hi John,
Advocates for Youth is committed to empowering LGBTQ youth to become leaders and advocates for change in their communities. Through our initiatives, we provide training, resources, and support to LGBTQ+ young people who are working tirelessly to create a more inclusive and equitable world for themselves and their peers.
This year, Give Out Day has been expanded to the entire month of May. So as we head into Pride, celebrate and support our fabulous youth activists and their wins! For example:
-
Maxx, a Florida-based youth activist, provided testimony at school boards and at the state legislature against draconian anti-LGBTQ+ policies, and co-founded PRISM, a nonprofit that works to provide Florida youth with LGBTQ-inclusive resources.
-
Josie succeeded in getting the University of Montevallo in Alabama to agree to install gender neutral bathrooms in every campus housing building - over 60 total!
-
Hanh and Ari, activists at University of Alabama - Birmingham, mobilized their peers, met with administrators, and successfully advocated for trans and nonbinary students to be able to have their preferred names on their diploma rather than their legal name.
-
Sarah, a youth activist based in Hawaii led a campaign to make Hawaii’s adoption law more equitable and just for LGBTQ+ people.
-
Netra, a North Carolina-based activist, led a successful campaign to incorporate LGBTQ+ lesson plans in sex education at the North Carolina School of Science and Math.
You can donate here to directly support LGBTQ youth organizers and help us to continue providing them training, resources and support so they can effectively advocate for a more just and equitable world.
Warmly,
Debra Hauser
