Hi Friends of 5 Gyres,

Let’s make Plastic Free July count! Help us reach our goal of logging 1,000 pieces of trash for our Plastic-Free Parks project this month. Join the effort and make a difference in three easy steps:

1. Download the TrashBlitz app ([link removed])

2. Head to your nearest national park or federal land*

3. Log any trash you find into the app as you go

*Federal lands include any public land managed by the federal government, including national conservation areas, national monuments, wilderness areas, national historic sights, and more. Learn more here! ([link removed])
Join the Plastic-Free Parks Effort ([link removed])

This data is an invaluable part of our work to protect our national parks & lands from harmful plastic pollution.

Plus, everyone who submits data in July will be entered to win ALL merchandise featuring original Plastic-Free Parks artwork, including our NEW crewneck (made from deadstock materials, in partnership with Rewilder ([link removed]) )! 👉

Weaving Solutions to Microfiber Pollution

We are feeling inspired and hopeful about the future of microfiber solutions after WOVEN ([link removed]) , our symposium that brought together brands, scientists, innovators, and NGOs to lay the groundwork for a roadmap to reduce microfiber pollution from textiles.

To explore one readily accessible and science-backed solution, read our new report with Ocean Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy, Fibers to Filters ([link removed]) .

More Ways to Take Action for Plastic Free July
* California: Use your voice to support microplastic pollution solutions in California ([link removed]) (before July 3)! Urge the Senate Environmental Quality Committee to vote AYE on AB 2214 (Bauer-Kahan and McKinnor), which would strengthen the CA Statewide Microplastics Strategy.
* Los Angeles: Join Reusable LA’s virtual community activism training, on July 24, to learn how you can get involved in the “Hold the Plastic, Please!” campaign. Register here! ([link removed])
* Miami: Get outside with TrashBlitz Community Fund Awardee, Clean Miami Beach, for a beach cleanup and data collection event. Sign up for July 5, 16, or 31 here ([link removed]) .
