Hi John -
Last week, our affiliates in the 350 Network Council co-hosted a Week of
Action across the country to hold for-profit utility companies accountable
for the climate crisis.
Now, we’re ready to take the fight to the Democratic National Convention
in Chicago and urge VP Kamala Harris to hold utility companies
accountable.

For far too long, for-profit utility companies have been raising rates for
basic necessities while keeping all of us reliant on expensive,
climate-wrecking fossil fuels. In some cases, vulnerable communities — who
are often the ones impacted the most by the climate crisis — have to
choose between heating their homes or putting food on the table.
But it doesn’t have to be this way, John. Everyone deserves the
right to fulfill our basic needs. This is why, if she is elected, we’re
calling on VP Harris to step in and commit to capping household utility
bills at no more than a reasonable percentage of household income.
Not only would this be a fairer deal for the most vulnerable people in our
communities, who spend a bigger chunk of household income on utilities
than anyone else. It would also make sure for-profit utility companies are
not using our money to continue fueling the climate crisis and end the
vicious cycle.
We are going to the Democratic National Convention today, together with
key leaders like Louisiana Public Utility Commissioner Devante Lewis — to
bring our demands straight to VP Harris, so she can get started on her
first day in office. [ [link removed] ]Can you sign our petition now so we can deliver
your message to her at the convention this week?
