John — Happy Labor Day!
For decades, labor heroes in Philadelphia and across the nation have fought tooth and nail for workers' rights we often take for granted. Their sacrifices paved the way for safer working conditions, the 40-hour work week, the minimum wage, and so much more.
I grew up in a working-class family in Philly — a city that proudly stands as a union town. It's no coincidence that the first-ever general strike in North America happened right here. Thanks to unions, our families can continue to fight for safer working environments and are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve on the job.
We’ve come a long way, but workers across the country still face the GOP’s anti-worker agenda. Project 2025 threatens to unravel workers' rights, targeting everything from collective bargaining and unemployment benefits to fair wages and safe working conditions. I refuse to sit back and let Donald Trump and his MAGA friends strip away the rights that generations of workers have fought so hard to secure.
At the same time, our nation is falling behind other countries in access to paid sick days, a livable, federal minimum wage, and paid family leave. I will keep standing in solidarity with the unions and workers fighting for better working conditions for our families.
Today, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating labor organizers, frontline workers, and anyone who has fought and continues to fight for the rights we know we deserve.
Let’s keep pushing forward,
Dwight
