John -

Housing in San Francisco doesn’t have to be so divisive. We can all agree that anyone who wants to live in San Francisco should be able to afford to live here. In order to make that a reality, we need to build more housing. Now. That means more affordable housing and more market rate housing for All San Franciscans—including working and middle-class families.

It’s time for those who would stand in the way of progress and block new housing construction when they don’t get 110 percent of what they want to stand aside—or join us in the fight for a truly more affordable San Francisco for everyone.

I’m someone whose family struggled when we first arrived here in America, so the rising cost of living and this unaffordable housing market aren’t just theoretical topics for me. This understanding has fueled my fight for working families throughout my years as a labor organizer, city planner, and Supervisor.

Today, I’m proud to share my housing plan for San Francisco. And with your support, I’m ready to be San Francisco’s true housing mayor, so we can build a more affordable city for all.

Check out the plan here.

Some highlights of my plan:

  • Streamline the housing site permit approval process so we can build housing for all income levels.

  • Maximize height and density along our commercial corridors, targeting 6-8 story buildings, while recognizing that not all neighborhoods are the same.

  • Ensure that a union workforce earning fair wages is put to work on our city’s next housing boom.

  • Reduce fees and taxes for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s).

  • Implement stronger protections for long-term tenants from speculative Ellis Act evictions by fully funding legal representation for renters.

  • Make sure the City’s Prop I transfer tax goes towards building and securing affordable housing.

  • Expand rental assistance programs and tenant subsidies.

Please read the plan in full.

If you like what you see, and you agree that it’s time to elect a true housing mayor for San Francisco, please donate what you can today, to help ensure we have the resources we need to share this plan with voters far and wide.

Thanks so much for all of your support.
