John,
At 6:30 a.m. 23 years ago today, I dropped my girlfriend (and future wife) off at Planned Parenthood for her regular prayer vigil time. I then went to class just two weeks into my freshman year of college on a dark, evil day that changed the world forever.
Like me, many of you will reflect today on where you were on September 11, 2001. A lot has happened since 9/11 in the United States and the world--both good and bad.
What is clear to me on this anniversary is that none of the cultural decay we see was apparent 23 years ago: abortion at 40 weeks, the invention of same-sex marriage, an endless number of legally recognized genders, and the notion that you can call anyone a racist for anything (to the point that the term has lost its once-powerful meaning).
I'm not highlighting this cultural upheaval on the 9/11 anniversary to complain...but to shed light on the challenges we are called to entrust to God in 2024.
The power and beauty of the 9/11 anniversary are the examples of heroes who got up that morning having no idea what they would be called upon to do because it was unthinkable.
But they did it, and many of them lost their lives doing it.
The sacrifices of the heroes of 9/11 point to the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for all of us--willingly and without complaint. As demand for 40 Days for Life, persecution of 40 Days for Life, and the anger of those who oppose 40 Days for Life hit an all-time high, the heroic response of faith in Christ is ALSO at an all-time high. That's the only thing that explains our growth in post-Roe America.
In two weeks, we will embark upon the largest 40 Days for Life campaign ever--praise God.
We need you. We need you to respond to our culture with faith, love, and joy. We need help. This is not a financial appeal. This is a more important appeal--the appeal for you to pray to save a life, reach a woman, convert an abortion worker, or offer hope to a woman after her abortion.
Sign up to heal our culture and do what 40 Days for Life has done since 2004: show our culture that heroes still exist and that neither fear nor despair will prevent us from giving a voice to those who have no voice but ours.
