My story begins right here — in Loudon County — in 1979.
A few years before I was born, my mother, a native of Bengaluru, India, immigrated to the United States to unite with my father and pursue a career in medicine.
My mom came through Dulles Airport — our family’s “Ellis Island.”
My parents taught me early on how important serving your community is. And at every stage of my life, I’ve felt called to action.
I attended college in New Orleans — and when Hurricane Katrina hit, I helped organize volunteers on campus to rebuild.
A few years later, I worked with the Center for Wrongful Convictions to free a man wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for 21 years.
On Capitol Hill, as a policy aide, I helped craft the DREAM Act and the Affordable Care Act and build coalitions in support of these critical bills. And I went on to serve as a policy advisor to President Obama in the White House.
In Richmond, I’ve:
✔️ Taken on Big Pharma, capped prescription drug costs, and fought for medical billing transparency.
✔️ Stopped predatory utility rate and toll increases.
✔️ Protected abortion rights and fought gun violence.
With so much on the line in November, If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s this: I’ll always put our community first and never stop fighting for us.
