** New poll shows people want action on alcohol harm
------------------------------------------------------------
Alcohol harm affects us all - from headaches and poor sleep to liver disease and cancer. The environment in which we live also encourages us to drink more alcohol while failing to tell us the truth about what we're consuming and how this is impacting our health.
Yet we often hear claims that policies to tackle alcohol harm would be unpopular but people are connecting the dots.
New research which we’ve commissioned shows policy action on alcohol is genuinely popular among UK adults, with particular support for increasing alcohol duty. People want to protect the NHS and recognise that addressing alcohol harm is part of the solution, with more than half (52%) of respondents agreeing that increasing alcohol duty until it covers the cost of alcohol-related harm would have a positive impact on the NHS.
The majority of people also support other actions on alcohol harm, including not allowing alcohol marketing in places where it can be seen by significant numbers of children (61%), and compulsory labels on drinks with ingredients and calorie content (59%).

A new study has found that beer consumption dropped by around 10% when pubs replaced pint glasses with smaller glasses. The researchers believe that, alongside addressing the affordability and advertising, replacing traditional serving sizes with smaller measures represents an additional intervention that could reduce alcohol harm.
