| | Meeting with Local Business Leaders
| | Last week, I attended the Meet Your State Legislative Representatives event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County. My colleagues and I met with the local business community, answered questions, and discussed our legislative objectives. It was great to do this with state Sens. Amanda Cappelletti and Maria Collett, and state Reps. Matt Bradford, Steve Malagari, Mary Jo Daley, Liz Hanbidge, and Melissa Cerrato. Thanks for having us.
| | The Importance of Library Access
| | Last week, I was proud to stand with my colleagues and librarians from across Pennsylvania to acknowledge the crucial role that libraries play in our communities. When I was 8 years old, a librarian handed me a book about Willie Mays that sparked a love of reading that has served me well throughout my lifetime. We must ensure that readers (and emerging readers) of all ages have access to books that spark innovation, creativity, and critical thinking. Special thanks to Pennsylvania Department of Education Sec. Dr. Khalid Mumin for sharing with us the impact libraries had on his education.
| | Telephone Town Hall for Election Questions
| | | On Thursday, Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Montgomery County is hosting a Telephone Town Hall to answer questions and discuss the measures the county is taking to ensure a safe, secure, and accessible election. Call 866-416-5255 to join and dial *3 to ask your questions of the chair of the Board of Elections and the Voter Services team.
| | | Fall Festivals – West Norriton & The Pathway School
| | | My office staff and I had a great time at West Norriton's Fall Festival last Saturday. Can't beat a picture-perfect day with good music and fun fall festivities. Always a pleasure meeting with neighbors, hearing their concerns, and providing useful information.
I also stopped by The Pathway School’s Fall Festival on Saturday and really enjoyed the experience. Special thanks to David Schultz and Pathway leadership for opening a world of knowledge and opportunity to their students.
| | Perkiomen Mapping & Flood Mitigation Study
| | The Perkiomen Mapping & Flood Mitigation Study is a collaboration among county planning commissions and conservation districts, local municipalities, the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, my office, and other organizations to help address flooding issues throughout the entire Perkiomen Creek watershed, which includes Montgomery, Bucks, Berks, and Lehigh counties.
The study is currently underway and looks to identify flooding locations, model parts of the watershed that experience severe flooding, integrate solutions, and engage with the community to help guide a future that informs and better prepares for flooding events.
The first public meetings are listed below:
Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Upper Providence Township Building
Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Pennridge North Middle School
Thursday, Nov. 21 at Upper Perkiomen High School
Stay tuned for weekly updates as the study progresses. For more information, please visit www.perkiomenwatershed.org.
