Dear Friends of 5 Gyres,

As we approach the end of year, as well as our 15th anniversary as an organization, we’re inspired to reflect on our collective progress and envision our collaborative future with you by our side.

In hindsight, the years were short, but the days and weeks fighting for a cleaner world have, at times, felt endless in our dogged pursuit of a plastic-free future. So right now, we are taking a deep breath (inhale, exhale) and a moment to think about the hope and gratitude that still lives within us as we move forward.

Your belief in our work over the last 15 years has allowed us to:

• Embark on 19 research expeditions and publish the most comprehensive estimate on ocean plastics to date

  
  

• Drive a national campaign that led to the Microbead-Free Waters Act

  
  

• Develop a data collection tool (TrashBlitz) that activates communities and advances targeted solutions to reduce plastic pollution

  
  

• Collaborate with corporate partners to reduce plastic in their products and offices

  
  

• Build a global Ambassador network of passionate changemakers who share our vision of a plastic-free future

Our work isn’t done, and our team will continue to leverage science, advocacy, and community to drive innovative solutions to plastic pollution in 2025 and beyond. With your support, we will advocate for a strong, science-based Global Plastics Treaty, publish comprehensive research on airborne microplastics and vet solutions, lead coalitions that support a reusable future, and offer actionable ways for our community to get involved.

The holidays can be a stressful time, and the last thing you probably want to think about is the looming threat of plastic pollution. Fortunately, you can breathe easy knowing that 5 Gyres is tackling the issue with trusted science, fierce advocacy, and steadfast community support.
