John, You just spent 40 days selflessly praying, fasting, and standing vigil for complete strangers... ...but sometimes the impact of your prayers hits close to home. That was the case in Columbia, South Carolina, where 40 Days for Life prayer warriors saved one of their own. "You saved the life of my first grandchild," said a Columbia vigil volunteer. "My son's girlfriend went to [Planned Parenthood] to do the horrendous thing. But after the ultrasound, something happened, [and they had to reschedule] for the following week." That delay gave the vigil participant time to talk with the woman, which changed her mind about going through with the abortion. While this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign has come to an end, that doesn't mean it's too late to pray. Columbia is one of more than 70 cities that will continue to stand vigil as part of the 40 Days for Life 365 initiative. Find your local vigil and sign up to pray by visiting: 40daysforlife.com/365 And mark your calendar for Monday, December 2, when we'll begin accepting applications to lead the March 5-April 13 40 Days for Life campaign! The Bronx, New York 40 Days for Life sidewalk counselors in New York City met a young woman--accompanied by her mother and aunt--headed for a late-term abortion. "The aunt was screaming that she didn't want her niece to have the child," reported Sol, the campaign leader. "But her mother didn't know what to do." After nearly three hours and more than 40 people praying, the pregnant woman and her unborn child emerged from the abortion facility safe and sound. "A huge wave of applause and celebration followed this enormous victory," Sol said. Even an abortion facility escort smiled. It became clear that the mother was under intense pressure to abort from her aunt. "She finally smiled with her newly gained freedom to love her baby," Sol added. A baby shower is now being planned. Tuluá, Colombia A sick woman in Colombia faced pressure to abort her triplets! Fortunately, somebody referred the mom to the 40 Days for Life team, which helped her find medical care for both her and her babies. "The local campaign coordinator offered the woman alternatives, got her legal help, and helped move her to a better clinic, where she could receive comprehensive medical care," reported 40 Days for Life director of Latin American campaigns Lourdes Varela. Thanks be to God, Mom and all three babies are now safe! On this rock I will build my church; the gates of hell will not prevail against it. --Matthew 16:18 Father, we have done battle with the power of evil, and therefore we can have compassion on those still within its grip. We have been freed from the kingdom of darkness, and therefore we can bear witness to your kingdom of light. May the witness of all your people through these 40 Days for Life bear abundant fruit.
