John,
In her concession speech, Vice President Harris spoke of her belief in and hope for our United States, and she made clear her commitment to something essentially American — the peaceful transfer of power. Through her words, she set an example of leadership for both those who voted for her and those who did not.
While I am deeply disappointed by the result of the presidential election, I am proud to live in a country where we have free and fair elections and our voices are heard at the ballot box. I know that every vote matters, and that is especially true in choosing our representatives in the halls of Congress. As we wait for the results in Congressional races across the country, I remain hopeful that we will have a vibrant House Democratic Caucus that will stand up for the people they represent, the values we hold dear, and the institutions that have transformed the idea of America into an extraordinary nation.
There are still so many reasons to be hopeful for our country and the future we can build together. Just this week, the people of Virginia’s 7th District – the district I have proudly represented for three terms — elected a new Member of Congress who fled the Soviet Union as a child, arrived in America as a refugee, went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army, and will now represent an expansive and diverse community in Congress.
Eugene Vindman’s win shows that ours is still a land of incredible promise, though we may feel our divisions acutely at this moment. There’s much hard work ahead, and I am ready to look towards and work towards that future. I hope you will join me.
In my campaign to serve as the next Governor of Virginia, I’ll continue to engage Virginians across our Commonwealth on the issues that matter most — stronger schools, safer communities, and lower costs for Virginia families.
All Virginians, particularly our children, deserve leadership that brings people together around the values that unite us.
That’s why I hope you’ll consider contributing to our campaign today. Every contribution shows that we are motivated and ready to do what it takes to win next year.
