John -
Thank you.
It has been the honor of a lifetime to campaign for mayor of this great city. Though the election result isn’t what we had hoped for, I am so proud of the campaign we ran.
Congratulations to Mayor-Elect Daniel Lurie on his victory. Thank you to former Mayor Mark Farrell, for his friendship and his partnership in this campaign. I would also like to extend a thank you to Mayor London Breed and Board President Aaron Peskin for their many years of service to San Francisco.
While we were competitors in this race, we all love San Francisco above all, and I look forward to working with the Mayor-Elect and with my fellow candidates in any capacity that I can in the years to come to make San Francisco work better for all of us.
Thank you to my family, who endured long hours and the often high stress environment of the campaign alongside me - especially my wife Yadira, my kids Xol and Rumi and my mother Marsha. I love you all so much, and I’m looking forward to spending some quality down time with you now that the election is behind us.
Thank you to my campaign team—Lauren, Prabhat, Tomas, Miriam, Miguel, Eva, Derek, Noah, Ben, Taylor, Bill, Daniel, SE Owens and everyone else who played a hand in helping to run this operation. Thank you to my team in City Hall - Lila, Esther, Jeff, and Tiffaney - who volunteered their personal time to help out on this campaign. You worked your heart out for this great city and for that I will always be grateful.
Thank you to all of our endorsers, particularly those from my second home in the labor movement. Thank you to everyone who donated your hard-earned resources, knocked on doors, made phone calls, or posted a sign to show your support.
Together, we waged a passionate, ideas-based campaign for a city that works for all of us, not just the few, but for every San Franciscan. And together we shaped the debate about what it means for a city to better serve its working and middle-class families.
And, let me just say that, given the results of the presidential election, it will be critical for cities like San Francisco–a proud city of immigrants, a diverse and vibrant city where all people can be who they are–to keep up the fight for what we stand for.
I look forward to continuing our work together to move our great city forward in the years to come.
Thank you so much again for your friendship and support.
