It is looking Democrats won’t take the House majority this coming term making the last week since election night even tougher, no doubt about it. And before we get into what it all means I want to say one thing: thank you. Thank you for your efforts, your time, and your energy. I can tell you with certainty: you made a difference.
Now, I’m not going to sugarcoat the results: there’s a lot we can learn from Tuesday night. Let’s dig in…
We’re winning on the issues. |
Of the ten states that put abortion rights on the ballot, seven voted to guarantee abortion rights in their state constitutions. |
Women candidates are always fighting an uphill battle. |
Women seeking elected office must out-raise, out-organize, and out-qualify their opponents to be successful. It’s a simple, unfortunate truth that was underscored on Tuesday. |
We know things feel grim but we are even more emboldened to go into the next cycle with a renewed commitment to prove that a woman’s place IS in elected office at all levels.
We are as clear-eyed about the disadvantages our candidates face as we are committed to using A Woman’s Place’s resources and status to support even more women in the upcoming cycle. If you are ready to hit the ground running, here is where you can donate to our 2026 Cycle Fund.
However, we know we all need some rest so we aren’t calling you to action right now but know it is coming and we hope you will be there to answer when we do.
In solidarity,
Mary Gay Scanlon
