Friends, it's Alex.

I’ve been thinking a lot about last week’s election results, and I wanted to share some of those thoughts with you.

I won’t lie to you — I’m incredibly disappointed with the results. It’s not easy, but in order to chart our path forward, we can’t afford to bury our heads in the sand.

But it isn’t all doom and gloom. Particularly in the Senate, we had some big wins that will make a big difference as we prepare for what’s ahead in a second Trump administration.

My friend Ruben Gallego won an open Senate seat in Arizona, and my colleagues Jacky Rosen and Tammy Baldwin won incredibly tough races in states that voted for Trump by large margins. Plus Elissa Slotkin won an open seat in Michigan.

That’s on top of some big wins for House Democrats in swing districts right here in California.

So what now?

This election was a reminder that progress does not come quickly or easily. And regardless of who is in the White House or controls Congress, our work to ensure hardworking Americans can provide for their families, to protect vulnerable communities and to defend our democracy does not stop.

There’s a lot to be worried about in a second Trump administration. The entire Project 2025 agenda is on the table. Have you read it?

Donald Trump and the Republicans are coming after our reproductive freedom. They want to roll back environmental regulations and let big corporations pollute our air and water. They want to deport millions of immigrant workers and drive up prices. They want to use the Department of Justice to go after Trump’s enemies, and eliminate the Department of Education.

I don’t bring these things up just to scare you, but because we need to be clear-headed about what’s at stake and focused for the work ahead.

We must stay engaged and stay in the fight. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s important.

So yes, take the time you need to come to terms with last week’s results. And then, let’s get to work doing what we’ve always done — fighting for California, for our friends and neighbors, and for the American Dream.

Thank you again, for everything.

- Alex
