*Governor Kelly Announces More than $1.4 Million Investment for Safer Streets and Roads *

TOPEKA* – Governor Laura Kelly announced Monday that four Kansas communities have secured over $1.1 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). 

“Leveraging federal dollars to supplement state and local investments in vital infrastructure is essential to economic growth,” *Governor Laura Kelly said*. “The Safe Streets and Roads for All program provides our communities with the resources needed to build, operate, or maintain critical infrastructure. I appreciate the Legislature's continued support of this initiative, as it represents a true bipartisan win for Kansas.”

Combined with nearly $265,000 in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Hub and Build Kansas Fund, and over $22,000 in local community match, the total investment in Kansas for this round of SS4A grants exceeds $1.4 million.

“We are thrilled to see so many Kansas agencies being awarded Safe Streets and Roads for All funds. These plans and demonstration activities will provide local agencies with a list of actionable items they can focus on for years to come,” *said Vanessa Spartan, chief of transportation safety at the Kansas Department of Transportation.* “Kansas is lucky to have so many local agency partners who are working to improve transportation safety.”

“The City of Ogden is thrilled to be a recipient of a Safe Streets and Roads for All grant. This funding will enable the city to further its commitment to ensuring our streets are safer for all residents and visitors,” *said Angela Shepard, Ogden City planner/zoning administrator*. “Our commitment to enhancing road safety reflects our dedication to fostering a secure and vibrant community. We look forward to working with our partners and the community to make Ogden's streets safer for everyone.”

“This grant represents a significant improvement in the safety and well-being of our residents,”* said Nick Rizzio, municipal project manager for the City of Arkansas City.* “By analyzing accident patterns and addressing the factors contributing to crashes, we are taking proactive steps to create safer streets for everyone – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.”

The four Kansas projects receiving SS4A funding in the third round are:

* *Build Kansas Funding - $57,000*
* *Local Funding - $3,000*
* Federal Funding Awarded - $240,000
* *Total Project - $300,000*

* *Ogden* –Safety Action Plan
* *Build Kansas Funding - $22,500*
* *Local *Funding *- $7,500*
* Federal Funding Awarded - $120,000
* *Total Project - $150,000*

* *Dickinson County* –Road Safety Action Plan
* *Build Kansas Funding - $36,000*
* Local Funding - $12,000
* Federal Funding Awarded - $192,000
* *Total Project - $240,000*

* *Osage County* – Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
* *Build Kansas Funding - $149,000*
* Federal Funding Awarded - $596,000
* *Total Project - $745,000*

"The Kansas Infrastructure Hub is dedicated to helping our communities maximize the funding opportunities from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,”* said Kansas Infrastructure Hub executive director Matt Volz. *“Providing technical assistance and matching funds for Kansas projects are key factors in leveraging additional federal funding.”

With these four awards, the Build Kansas Fund has provided the required matching dollars for 31 other federal grant awards across Kansas. The combined total investment by the Build Kansas Fund in all projects is $29.04 million, which has resulted in federal grant awards of $45.99 million.

*About the Kansas Infrastructure Hub – *Formed in 2022 by Governor Laura Kelly, the Kansas Infrastructure Hub (Hub) connects state agencies to serve as a resource center for Kansas communities as well as provides support to maximize BIL funding opportunities.

*About the Build Kansas Fund – *This fund provides state matching dollars for projects throughout Kansas that successfully apply for Federal grants under BIL. In 2023, the Legislature approved $200 million for the Build Kansas Fund to provide state matching dollars to Kansas entities and projects to meet federal local match requirements. Applications to the Build Kansas Fund will be accepted on a rolling basis until all funds have been committed or the Build Kansas Fund expires (June 30, 2027).
