The fight for reproductive rights in Virginia is far from over — and with Donald Trump taking office in less than two months, the stakes have never been higher.

Right now, we are the only state in the Southeast without an abortion ban or extreme restrictions. But that safety net only exists because of our Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate. Without them, we risk losing everything we’ve fought to protect.

We have two special elections coming up in January, and if we lose them, we lose our narrow majority.

This year, we took the first step toward a constitutional amendment that would preserve Virginians’ reproductive freedom. But, to get this amendment on the ballot in 2026, we have to pass it through both chambers in the 2025 and 2026 legislative sessions — and we can’t do that without protecting our Democratic majority in the Senate and the House.

Here’s the bottom line: 2025 starts now. If we don’t act, we risk losing our ability to safeguard reproductive rights for generations to come.
