The COVID-19 Rental Assistance (CRA) Program and the HOME American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Program will provide rental assistance to residents who struggled to make their rental payments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents can access the application and learn more through NYCHA’s Self-Service Portal. Medicare Open Enrollment is available. Review your Medicare coverage through Dec. 7th and make changes due to take effect on New Year’s Day. Eligible individuals, including DACA recipients for the first time under the Affordable Care Act, have a range of options from traditional Medicare to Medicare Advantage and more, visit medicare.gov/plan-compare for more information. Constituents with pending applications with USCIS can check their status online by visiting https://egov.uscis.gov/ and their processing times by visiting https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times. Online Passport Renewal 2.0 (OPR 2.0) has launched and is now available 24/7 for eligible adults wishing to renew their passports online instead of mailing in the renewal form DS-82. Applicants may access OPR 2.0 to submit their renewal at: travel.state.gov/renewonline Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits are now available. To help the costs of heating your home during the winter season, eligible residents can receive one regular HEAP benefit per year to help pay for heating their homes in the winter. Eligible residents can also request an emergency benefit if they’re in danger of running out of fuel or having their utility service shut off. Due to a historic lack of precipitation, Mayor Eric Adams and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are asking residents to start conserving water. The efforts will slow the depletion of city reservoirs and stop a shortage. Simple acts like turning off the tap when washing hands, brushing teeth, and doing dishes can save millions of gallons of water. The Pilot program, administered by NYSERDA with funding secured by our office, offers funds to non-profits in the Bronx & Queens who wish to hire environmental justice fellows for a 1-2 year term.
