This year, Thanksgiving follows a few big weeks packed with significant events: Election Day and the rush of winning a statewide race; Senate orientation to learn about my new role; and wrapping up work in our Congressional office in DC – where we had to move out at the end of last week.
That means that I have a LOT to reflect on, and a long list of things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.
In the spirit of the holiday, I thought I’d share just a few of them below. This year, I’m thankful for:
More than 300,000 of you who chipped in to power this campaign, giving just a few dollars at a time. This was the most expensive Senate race in Michigan history, and we showed that you can win when a lot of people come together to give what they can.
50,000 Michiganders who volunteered to help my campaign — and knocked on 2.2 million doors, sent 1.1 million texts, and made more than 5 million phone calls to voters.
My campaign staff of more than 40 people, who organized more than 500 events across the state of Michigan – allowing me to meet voters in every corner of the state.
The 715,000 residents of Michigan’s 7th district — where it’s been the honor of a lifetime to represent them in Congress over three terms.
And finally, all 10 million residents of Michigan — because whether or not you voted for me, I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve each and every one of you in the Senate next year.
I’ll be taking a few days with family this week to fully relax, recharge, and be grateful – and I hope you’re able to do the same.
Elissa
