On Tuesday, Governor Walz presented Minnesota’s Thanksgiving turkey at the Capitol.
“Minnesota is proud to be the top turkey-producing state in the nation, thanks to our hardworking, dedicated turkey growers,” said Governor Walz. “Our farmers and growers feed the world while driving Minnesota’s agricultural economy. I am grateful for their work to ensure we can enjoy our favorite foods this holiday season.”
Ahead of the holiday season, Governor Walz announced $5 million in new funding to put food on tables across the state. Governor Walz made the announcement and joined volunteers to stock shelves at the Neighborhood House food shelf in St. Paul.
“All Minnesotans deserve to sit around a full table and spend time with loved ones during the holidays,” said Governor Walz. “Minnesotans are generous people who do their part to ensure their neighbors have what they need – and this funding will go a long way to supporting those efforts. I’m grateful for our partnership with organizations working to tackle food insecurity and distribute these funds quickly.”
Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined meal packs at The Food Group and Second Harvest Heartland ahead of Thanksgiving.
“The Food Group and Second Harvest Heartland play a vital role in Minnesota, connecting families in need with affordable, healthy food. I was grateful to join their meal packs before the holidays - when coming together to support Minnesotans facing food insecurity feels more important than ever,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.
On Wednesday, Governor Walz announced $6 million in funding to support the expansion of emergency homeless shelter in Saint Paul.
“Housing is a basic human need, yet thousands of families struggle to find and maintain stable housing,” said Governor Walz. “When left with nowhere to turn, emergency shelters step in, providing warm spaces, hot meals, and needed services. This funding will provide necessary resources for shelters and homeless services.”
