Dear John,

I hope you and your families had a safe and happy Thanksgiving! I spent time with family – including the grandsons – and am incredibly grateful for them and for the opportunity to continue to serve our community in Congress.

This past Monday I shared my intention to seek the position of Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture. This would be the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee. As the granddaughter of a farm foreman who lost his job during the 1980s farm crisis, I would be honored to serve in this role in the Congress. And as someone who grew up in a mobile home park – who faced food insecurity and inconsistent access to health care at times, I know firsthand the impact agriculture policy in Congress can have on real people – and on American families.

I hear every day about the economic security folks need to put food on the table and support their families. And from family farmers across this district who feed, fuel and clothe America.

In Congress, I’ve been proud to work alongside Minnesota family farmers, local stakeholders and national leaders to deliver real results for America’s families, farmers, ranchers and producers. From championing bipartisan legislation to expand rural mental health care access, to my work on the Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act, to bipartisan efforts to improve supply chains and strengthen our nation’s workforce, I’ve made it my priority to listen to the needs of rural Americans and work across the aisle to find solutions.

My vision for the House Agriculture Committee is simple. Listen to the needs of rural folks and family farmers and those who rely on nutrition support across our country. Find common ground with Republicans where I can, stand up to them where I must. Just as I do representing you each and every day. This race for leadership should be concluded by mid-December, and I’ll keep you posted along the way. No matter what, I’ll keep working to serve Minnesotans in whatever ways I can in Congress.

Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig:

Meet Peach and Blossom, this year’s Presidential Turkeys from the Zimmerman Farm in Northfield! They traveled all the way to the White House for the 77th Annual National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation and were pardoned by President Biden. They are now headed back to Minnesota to be educational ambassadors for the next generation of agriculture students.

For the record, I tried to get the President to name them Scott and Dakota – the largest two counties in our district. But Rice, Washington and LeSueur would have been better names as well!

I’ll be in D.C. next week for votes – I hope you all have a restful weekend.

Until next time,
